This 1968 Jaguar XKE Series 1.5 roadster was first delivered in San Francisco, California, and at some point before 2008 the car was refinished in British Racing Green with black leather upholstery, a black soft top, and retrofitted headlight covers. In 2014 a Tremec five-speed manual transmission was installed, and in 2015 the water pump was replaced. The current owner acquired the car in 2016 and has since driven the car approximately 6,500 miles, and in 2021 the 4.2-liter inline-six was serviced with a rebuild of the front carburetor, installation of MSD ignition, and replacing coolant hoses, the master cylinder, and more as described below. The rear disc brakes and front suspension were also refreshed at this time.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust Production Record Trace certificate lists that the car was delivered in Dark Blue with a color-coordinated top, and at some point before 2008 the car was modified with enclosed headlights and refinished British Racing Green with a black soft top and matching boot. The selling dealer notes chips on the front fascia and hazing areas on the rear bumper chrome.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-ear knock-offs and were mounted with Pirelli Cinturato tires in 2017. In 2021 the upper and lower ball joints were replaced along with the rear brake calipers and pads.
The interior also underwent a color change under previous ownership and now has black leather upholstery and carpeting. The owner reports that the right most toggle switch is an on/off switch for manually activating the auxiliary fan to aid in idle cooling. There are no sun visors currently mounted on the car, and a loose set of sun visors is included with the sale.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 94k miles, thought it is not believed to be accurate, and approximately 6,500 miles have been added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 4.2-liter inline-six features dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was factory rated at 246 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque. In 2021 the timing was set, the front carburetor was rebuilt and ported, MSD ignition was installed, and the coolant hoses, thermostat, and master cylinder were replaced. The car also has an aluminum radiator with dual cooling fans, and the battery is dated January 2023.
The five-speed Tremec manual transmission was installed in 2014, at which time the clutch components were replaced.
The car is accompanied by an owner’s manual, dealer listing, service voucher booklet, and Jaguar branded booklet case, a tire jack and case, copper-headed knockoff mallet, a loose set of sun visors, a spare distributor, and other various spare parts.
